Seal Beach Residuum- Bills Contest 2

In the Beginning of March, Bill Bryan held an amateur contest at Seal Beach.
The contest was scheduled for somewhat closer to noon when the tide was very low.
The morning high-tide session was fun.... But the afternoon killed it.
Even though, many competitors where still up for it, and the contest was mostly judged by tech-tricks.

There weren’t many waves, but Teddy Parker and Taylor Candiz, both Square Skimboards team riders, pop-shovit’ed their way into the finals.

Teddy Parker warming up like a ‘pro’.....

I can’t imagine how hard it must have been for the judges....

Taylor Cadiz:

Square Skimboards, great tech trick boards, a great new experience.

But hey, even with the miserable conditions, there was a bungee to play with....

And the guys had fun...

if you don’t know Squares boards, they have a quite different shape from other boards on the market....

And everyone gets stoked when they see the SkimBrasil photobook.

Seal Beach - Bills Contest

In the Beginning of March, Bill Bryan held an amateur contest at Seal Beach.
The contest was scheduled for somewhat closer to noon, but Taylor, Corey and myself believed otherwise and got there at sunrise, around 6:00 AM.

The lighting, though beautiful, was somewhat difficult but the waves got better and better.

This was a very short picture session do to my trembling knees from the cold and anxiety to go skim it myself.

But the waves were really beautiful. It was super glassy and slide slipping action got better and better as the tide started to sink.

I KNOW! NO BARRELS RIGHT?
well, the truth is, the really early morning session was kind of brutal, and the peak of the high tide didn’t make it easy, but there were barrels, only problem is, i was skimming at that point, before the beach got too crowded of contestants (like 5 skimmers). It really did get easy for barreling later, WAY OUTSIDE, but no photographic proof.
Even though, the early morning session did show Seals potential:

At one point, i just might post the contest pics, but i dont know if you really want to see them.

Next posts: Bigger Seal Beach with Teddy Parker, Windy Wedge with Taylor and some Pros coming soon.

Green Eggs and Am

Saturday, the 21st of March; Paulo Prietto and Steve Taylor hosted the Green Eggs and Am competition again.
(more information under http://greeneggsandam.com/ )
The competition was held at West St. Even though it was scheduled early and the tide wasn’t collaborating, skimmers of various ages started arriving and crossing their fingers for some good waves later on. About 30 skimmers were there, signing in, getting their hat and warming up while West was doing its share:

Many of the earlier heats depended on your pretty basic front-on wave, reinforced by pressure coming from the waves hitting of the rocks, but you couldn’t call those siders. You saw a variety of tricks being pulled of; from aerials to 180° airdrops, from shove-its to switch in the barrel.
Before the pics, please remember, I am new in town, I don’t know everyones name and might be wrong on one or two of them! I am sorry for the confusion.

Teddy Parker showing that small is still fun!

Wrapping with style

But as the minutes passed and heats were turning into semi-finals, West St showed potential!
Blair was one of the first riders to really be taking advantage of the siders, but as the tide got better, the waves came in offering stronger siders.

Among some of the known names, you had Sam Stinnet, Paulo P., Brandon Sears, Steve Taylor, Derek, Tommy D., Woody Harris, and a few others:

And what would this post be worth if there were no local girls!

Then, West St really raised the heat and gave us sweat waves!
